2023 Resolution
Redesign Colorado's Education Accountability System

WHEREAS, Colorado's education accountability system, based on "high-stakes" standardized testing, has failed the promise of improving student learning and closing the achievement gap; and

WHEREAS, Colorado's accountability system unfairly targets schools and districts with high percentages of student poverty, minority populations, and English language learners (ELL) by enforcing ineffective and punitive sanctions; and

WHEREAS, Colorado's accountability system has further marginalized and discriminated against low socioeconomic, minority, and ELL students with inequitable resources and funding; therefore,

 

Be It Resolved, that Colorado's General Assembly eliminate "high-stakes" standardized testbased accountability, accreditation, and sanctions on districts, schools, and educators; and

 

Be It Resolved, that Colorado's General Assembly redesign an education accountability system that is meaningful, relevant, and equitable; and

 

Be It Resolved, that Colorado's General Assembly redesign the accountability system to include authentic assessment tools such as portfolios, projects, and performance-based tasks to measure student growth and individual strengths; and

 

Be It Resolved, that Colorado's General Assembly support effective, community-based interventions and solutions using local, state, and federal funding and resources.
